Assistant Professor on faculty with the LIU Dance Department has served as trainer, recruiter, teacher, and rehearsal director since 1997. Dana was a principal dancer and company teacher with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater from 1988-1995, when she retired due to injury. Since that time she has also served as rehearsal director for various different dance companies including Donald Byrd/The Group. Dana continues to teach and set repertory pieces for and on the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. In 2001, she had the honor of setting Donald Byrd's Dance at the Gym on the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Since her retirement Dana has become a licensed Massage Therapist and received her BFA in Dance. Her own injuries inspired her to study science in order to help her redefine proper anatomical alignment in dance. She has been able to further her work in this area with the guidance and assistance of the ADAM Center for Dance Research (formerly SOAR Research), one of only a handful of research labs dedicated to dance in this country. She is presently the director of The Dance Wellness Program and the ballet program at LIU, while pursuing her MFA in Dance.
