Description
Della Davidson
Della Davidson is a choreographer, theater artist and teacher who creates interdisciplinary works that explore the presence of women and the lyrical power of dance and storytelling. She is a Professor of Theatre and Dance and Artistic Director of Sideshow Physical Theatre, the resident professional performance company of the Mondavi Center and the Department of Theatre and Dance started by Davidson in 2002. Before coming to UC Davis in 2001, Davidson directed The Della Davidson Dance Company in San Francisco for 15 years. Between Sideshow and DDDCO she has created over 35 new works, many of which are evening-length interdisciplinary dance-plays. Her work has been recognized by numerous awards and grants including an Isadora Duncan Award (Izzies) for Choreography, a North American Choreographers Award, a Gerbode Fellowship and many years of National Endowment for the Arts support. In 2003 she was awarded a Rockefeller Multi-Arts Production Grant to collaborate with John Flax and Theater Grottesco on A Dream Inside Another based on the short stories of Isabel Allende. Davidson has done numerous residencies as guest artist including two residencies at the Sundance Theater Lab, the Laban Centre for Dance in London, the Djerassi Foundation and numerous universities. Davidson is a Chancellor's Fellow at UC Davis and Chair of the MFA program.DellaDavidson Gifts
