Jeanne Travers
Jeanne Travers received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance from the University of California at Santa Cruz and her Master of Fine Arts degree in Choreography and Performance from the University of Utah where she graduated with honors. Professor Travers has been a member of the Dance faculty at the University of South Florida for the past 17 years where she teaches Modern dance, Choreography, Pedagogy and Improvisation. Professor Travers was also the former Director of the Dance Program at Weber State University in Ogden Utah and Director of the student based dance company- Orchesis Dance Theatre. Professor Travers is deeply involved in collaboration and in interdisciplinary, multicultural choreographic projects. She has collaborated with poets, musicians, opera singers, videographers, ceramic artists, sculptors, actors and weavers. Her choreography has been presented nationally and internationally in Bolivia, France, Italy and Tunisia. Ms. Travers has also taught master classes, seminars and dance workshops in France, Italy, Germany, Bolivia, and within the United States. Most recently, Ms. Travers premiered her choreography, Visions of Peace in Paris, France under the high patronage of the Mayor of Paris. In addition, Ms. Travers has been the recipient of several awards, including a State of Florida Division of Cultural Affairs Individual Artists’ Fellowship for Outstanding choreography in the state of Florida, an Individual Artists’ Grant Award through the Arts Council of Hillsborough County, two State of Florida Division of Cultural Affairs International Cultural Exchange Grants, three University of South Florida Sponsored Research Grants, grants through USF International Affairs and numerous grants through the College of Visual and Performing Arts. She was also awarded the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, the TIP Award for outstanding teaching at USF, an Outstanding Academic Advising Award from the University of South Florida, and was also nominated for the Friends of the Arts Award for outstanding teaching contributions to the arts in Pinellas County, Florida. © 2008 USF School of Theatre & Dance
