Description
Jennifer Kayle
Jennifer Kayle began her movement education as a competitive gymnast and diver. Her studies in concert dance began at Middlebury College, where she earned her B.A. With a degree in both Dance and Sociology, and a minor in Women’s Studies, these modes of inquiry combine to influence her teaching and art making. Before and after receiving her M.F.A. from Smith College, she lived and worked in the Pioneer Valley of Massachusetts, presenting work and performing at New England venues such as Boston Moves, Jacob’s Pillow’s “Inside Out,” International Festival of Arts and Ideas, Green Street Studios, and Thorne’s. Jennifer began her teaching career at Northfield Mt. Hermon School, and went on to teach and choreograph at Hampshire and Amherst Colleges, University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Keene State and Muhlenberg Colleges. During this time, Jennifer performed at venues including Bates Dance Festival Emerging Choreographers, St. Mark’s Church, and Jacob’s Pillow with artists such as Freedman/Coleman, Karinne Keithley, and “Elephant Jane” directed by Heidi Henderson. Her choreographies have appeared in Gala Concerts including ACDF Regional and National Festivals, RDA/Northeast, and have been supported by commissions and grants including the NEA/CBE. In addition to her work with Elephant Jane, Jennifer is a founding member of The Architects, a collaborative improvisational movement theatre company (www.architectsdance.org).
