Judy Allen received her BFA from the University of Oklahoma, and her MFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has been an active teacher, administrator, and choreographer at the University of Iowa, the University of Hawaii at Manoa, George Mason University, and most recently, California State University, Long Beach. Her professional interests in the field of dance center on choreography, dance education, dance notation, and dance in its cultural context. She has been active in the professional organizations of the Dance Notation Bureau, the Council of Dance Administrators, the National Association of Schools of Dance. Allen is a past President of the American College Dance Festival Association. She has scored two of her theatrical dances in Labanotation, a method of recording human movement, and enjoys choreographing for both concert stage and musical theatre.
