Description
Lynne Wimmer
Lynne Wimmer has been a member of the Dance Faculty of USF since 1983. A BFA graduate from the Juilliard School in New York City, she had the priviledge of studying with such great choreographers as Jose Limon, Anna Sokolow, and Anthony Tudor as well as master teachers Betty Jones and Alfredo Corvino. In 1997 she received her MFA from the University of Utah and has also received her CMA from the Laban Institute.
Lynne’s performing career included 9 years as a soloist with Utah’s Repertory Dance Theater and several years with Ballets Felix Blaska in France. She also had her own company Wimmer, Wimmer and Dancers which was based in Philadelphia and which performed throughout the United States. In addition to her own company, her choreography has been performed nationally by various university and professional modern dance companies including Repertory Dance Theater, the Tampa/Colorado Ballet, and The Juilliard Dance Ensemble. Internationally, her choreography has been performed by companies in Europe, Costa Rica, Mexico and Canada.
A recipient of two Fulbright Lecturer/Scholar awards to teach and choreograph in Mexico and Costa Rica, Ms. Wimmer has also received choreographic grants from the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs, the Hillsborough Arts Council, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the Utah Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Her teaching assignment at USF includes Modern Dance Technique ( Limon), Introduction to Laban Movement Analysis, Choreography and Kinesiology. Her current research investigation lies in the medium of Dance For Camera.
While she has always earned her living as a dancer and choreographer, she has fantasies about being a gardener, a poet, a photographer and a cook.
