Pegge Vissicaro
Dr. Pegge Vissicaro, assistant professor, teaches courses in Dance in World Cultures, Cross-Cultural Dance Studies, and Theory and Methods of Dance Research. Vissicaro’s research and hands-on work, investigates processes of cross-cultural dance study; facilitates the development of refugee dance communities in the Phoenix metropolitan area; explores popular dance culture in Brazil; and designs technology-based tools for dance cultural study.
Her most recent publication is the textbook, Studying Dance Cultures around the World: an Introduction to Multicultural Dance Education. She has been published in the international peer-reviewed journals Ethnic Studies Review, Australia New Zealand Dance Research Society, Multimedia Tools and Applications, African Studies Quarterly, and the magazine, Animated.
Vissicaro was a Fulbright Scholar at the Universidade Tecnica de Lisboa and Instituto Politecnico de Lisboa from 1996-1997. She also has presented papers and lectures, taught master classes and conducted residencies in Portugal, France, Brazil and Canada. She is president of Cross-Cultural Dance Resources, Inc.; executive director of Terradance, Inc.; and co-director of Freedance, Inc.
Vissicaro performs locally with Agbe Nunya West African Dance and Music, and Batuque Brazilian Music and Dance for multicultural festivals she produces for schools and community organizations.
