Peggy Gaither Adams has served on the UH faculty for 24 years. Serving both the undergraduate and graduate levels, her primary areas of teaching are modern dance technique, improvisation and choreography. Peggy's own performance areas are modern dance and rhythm tap. Most of her choreography has been done in collaboration with other artists in areas such as music, sculpture, animation, and video. She has been director of her own dance groups, Dance Import and Four Bare Fete, and in this capacity and as an independent artist she has taught numerous residencies, including a workshop for the Edinburgh International Festival of the Arts. Peggy has been a guest teacher, choreographer, and/or performer at communities and schools throughout the United States as well as in Scotland, England, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore and China. She served on the faculties of the University of Utah, Ohio State University, and Cornell University prior to her tenure at UH Mānoa. As part of her teaching load, Peggy has directed concerts for lab theatre and Kennedy Theatre main stage productions, showcasing student, faculty and guest artist works of ballet and modern dance forms as well as traditional dances from other cultures. Peggy is one of the faculty directors of the UH Dance Ensemble.
