Robin Lakes is a former faculty member of Northwestern University Dance Program and also served as Dance Chairperson at the Chicago Academy for the Arts (performing arts high school). She founded and directed the National High School Institute Summer Dance Program at Northwestern University. Her research in the realms of dance pedagogy and dance history appears in Arts Education Policy Review, Medical Problems of Performing Artists, the Encyclopedia of New York State (Syracuse University Press), the newspaper Dancer, and the booklet Writing Across the Curriculum. Her research has been presented at national and international venues including Dance and the Child International, Performing Arts Medicine Association, Conference on Research in Dance, American Educational Studies Association, Society of Dance History Scholars, International Network of Performing and Visual Arts Schools, National Dance Education Organization, Ethics and Politics as Embodied in Dance conference, the Not Just Any Body global conference, and the National Dance Association. Ms. Lakes� innovative dance/theatre works have been performed since 1981 and her company, Robin Lakes/Rough Dance, has toured nationally. She has been awarded Illinois Arts Council Choreographers Fellowships and numerous City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs grants, as well as being nominated three times for the national American Choreographers� Awards. Critical raves for Ms. Lakes� dances have appeared in such national publications as Dance Magazine, High Performance Magazine, Dance Spirit, Chicago Sun-Times, and the Chicago Tribune. Her work has appeared in dance festivals funded by the MacArthur Foundation.
