Professor Wilson is best known as a founding member of the Urban Bush Women. She performed in New York for over a decade with such choreographers as Dianne McIntyre, Kevin Wynn, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, and Dorothy Vislocky. A Kentucky Artist in Residence from 1990-93, Ms. Wilson was on the faculty of the Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts for five years before joining the Michigan faculty. A frequent guest teacher, she has taught at Washington University, Wayne State University, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Ohio University, Bryn Mawr College, University of Kentucky, the American Dance Festival Association, New York State Summer School for the Arts, Michigan Youth Arts Festival and Urban Bush Women's Summer Leadership Institute at Florida State University in Tallahassee. Her choreography has been produced and/or commissioned by the Washington University Dance Theater, University of Michigan's University Dance Company, Metro Theatre Company, Happendance Company, Kentucky Arts Council, Bluegrass Black Arts Consortium, Harlem Dance Foundation, and various Kentucky arts organizations. She has received grant support from Pfizer, Inc., New York Council for the Arts, Kentucky Arts Council, Lexington Arts and Cultural Council, the Diamond Foundation, and Knight-Ridder Corporation. Ms. Wilson has been a presenter for the Society of Dance History Scholars, the Congress for Research in Dance, and the Conference on the Music and Dances of the African Diaspora, the latter interest leading her to continuing research in the Caribbean, South America, and most recently in Suriname. In 1999, Ms. Wilson was winner of the Maggie Allesee Award for New Choreography. She is a member of the Ann Arbor Dance Works.
