Susan Manning's teaching cuts across diverse genres of twentieth-century theatrical performance, while her research concerns the cultural politics of modern dance. Her second book , Modern Dance, Negro Dance: Race in Motion, explores changing relations between modern dancers and African-American choreographers in New York City from 1930 to 1970 and won an Honorable Mention from the Congress on Research in Dance. Professor Manning is now at work on a thrid book titled Thinking about Dancing: Dance Studies Inside and Outside the Academy. Currently, Professor Manning serves as convener for the Chicago Seminar on Dance and Performance and as president of the Society of Dance History Scholars.SusanManning Info
